Meet Marc – YouTuber, einer der witzigsten und, sofern ich das nach einem Treffen beurteilen kann, einer der nettesten Menschen, denen ich begegnet bin.

Aber vor allem - ein Künstler durch und durch.

Stell dich vor.

Ich bin Marc.

Ich male gerne.

Wie würdest du dich beschreiben?

Dunkelblau. Weil es eine meiner Lieblingsfarben ist und ich mich auch immer so fühle.

Wie eine Farbe.

Aber jetzt mal im Ernst – ich bin offen für alles und ein lebensfroher Mensch.

Wie ist die Idee zu den Videos entstanden? / Wie kam es dazu?

Alles fing bei Facebook an. Jedes Mal, wenn ich da eingeloggt war und durchscrollte, fiel mir auf, dass man dort nur zugemüllt wurde. Von Werbungen, die einen nicht interessieren bis hin zu Posts von unbekannten Leuten, die einen nur nerven. So dachte ich mir dann, dass doch wenigstens einer mal anfangen sollte, Facebook so zu nutzen, wie es ursprünglich gedacht war. Also um zu zeigen was man gerade macht. Ich habe daraufhin angefangen, Bilder hochzuladen und darunter zu schreiben, was ich gerade mache. Das fanden wohl einige ziemlich witzig. Und so kam mir die Idee, ein Video zu machen und es auf Facebook hochzuladen. In dem Video ging es um das Basteln einer Mandarinenkerze (es war gerade Weihnachtszeit) // hier schüttelt Marc seinen Kopf, lacht und fügt als Kommentar „ach Gott“ hinzu. //

Das war also der Anfang. Vor allem die Reaktionen der anderen waren krass und die waren es auch, die mich dazu ermutigen wollten, einen YouTube Kanal zu starten. Anfangs habe ich noch gesagt, dass das nie passieren wird, aber dann, nach ein paar Monaten habe ich es doch gemacht.

Hast du ein Vorbild?

Kein direktes Vorbild, aber Leute, die ich cool finde.

Fynn Kliemann zum Beispiel. Er baut auch Sachen. Aber in größeren Dimensionen.

Er hat sich mit seiner Freundin ein riesiges Grundstück gekauft. Mitten im Nirgendwo. Und da baut er dann Dinge wie Mini Ramps, einen Teich und all so was. Fynn baut nur Sachen, die er braucht. Zum Beispiel auch einen Gartentisch. Und genau so etwas will ich später auch machen.

Hast du (Zukunfts-) Träume?

Ein 100.000 Quadratmeter Grundstück in der Nähe von Bremen zu besitzen.

Du machst so vieles (selbst) – gibt es auch etwas, das du nicht kannst?

//lacht und sagt „ich bin rundum perfekt“//

Ich kann nicht kochen. Ich kann vieles nicht. Ich kann keine zwei Minuten meine Luft anhalten.

Naja, keine Ahnung, ich weiß, was ich kann, aber was ich nicht kann ist schwierig.

Ok, dann erzähl mir was du kannst.

Ich kann Dinge bauen. Ich kann malen. Ich kann allgemein kreative Dinge sehr gut.  Ich kann ein bisschen Skateboard fahren. Ich kann Gitarre spielen.

Und ich kann gut exen! Ich bin ein kranker Exer //lacht// und das ist auf jeden Fall eins meiner größten Talente.

Wann und wie hast du entdeckt, dass du künstlerisch begabt/kreativ bist?

Das war in der 9. Klasse. Da habe ich immer mit der Kamera meiner Eltern fotografiert und hab gemerkt, dass mir das Spaß macht. Aber, da habe ich auch gemerkt, dass ich zu dumm für das Abitur bin. Daraufhin bin ich runter vom Gymnasium und bin dann auf eine Schule für Gestaltung. Dort lief es ganz gut und ich habe weitergemacht.

Janis Joplin.

Lana Del Rey – ich bin so verliebt in sie.

Was bedeutet Freiheit für dich?

Keinen geregelten Alltag zu haben.

Den habe ich momentan aber leider. Und um das zu ändern, habe ich mir überlegt, irgendwohin zu ziehen, wo ich keine Arbeit und kein Geld zum Leben brauche. Zum Beispiel in einem Wohnwagen an einem Fluss – das wäre ideal. Durch Solarenergie erhält man Strom, ein Garten gibt einem Lebensmittel. Mehr braucht man nicht.

// Wie bei `Into the Wild` also?!

Ja, genau. Vor kurzem habe ich den Trailer zu `Captain Fantastic` gesehen - auch sehr inspirierend.

Der glücklichste Moment deines Lebens?

Das ist richtig schwer.

Es passieren so viele glückliche Momente.

Aber, mein glücklichster Moment war, als/dass ich hier in Deutschland geboren wurde. Weil wir hier einfach das perfekte Leben leben können.

Sieh nur, was so alles abgeht in anderen Ländern und überleg mal, du wärst da geboren worden. Dann hast du keine glücklichen Momente mehr.

Der schmerzhafteste Moment?

Ich hatte bis jetzt noch keine schmerzhaften Momente. Und wenn doch, dann waren es immer nur kleine Dinge.

Aber darauf will ich nicht näher eingehen.

Bist du glücklich?

Ja.

Was erwartet uns in Zukunft von dir?

Das ist so schwer. Es gibt wirklich viele Leute, die mehr Videos von mir sehen wollen. Komischerweise. Denn ich kann das nicht verstehen.

Aber das ist so stressig. Man muss da so viel machen.

Erst mal muss man sich was überlegen. Was aber nicht schwer ist. Das kommt bei mir immer spontan. Zum Beispiel sitze ich auf meinem Bett und auf einmal fällt mir irgendwas ein. Mir fällt eben immer relativ viel Scheiße ein.

Auch das Aufnehmen und Machen ist kein Problem. Aber das Schneiden – das Schneiden der Videos ist das Schlimmste. Ich muss bei mir immer ziemlich viel schneiden, weil ich wirklich viel Scheiße rede.

Dann muss lizenzfreie Musik rausgesucht werden. Dann ein Bild bauen.

Und all das zu machen, nachdem man 9 Stunden lang auf der Arbeit war, ist halt schon stressig. Aber ich versuche alle zwei Wochen mindestens ein Video herzustellen.

Thematisch will ich schon bei dem bleiben, bei dem ich gerade bin.

Nur möchte ich mehr brauchbare Dinge bauen.

Zum Beispiel ist mein nächstes Projekt …. Ich habe mir Paletten besorgt und will daraus einen klappbaren Tisch mit Rädern bauen. In der Mitte sollte der Tisch noch eine Schale haben, in der man verschiedene Sachen kühlen kann.

Bei diesem Projekt wurde ich übrigens von Fynn Kliemann inspiriert.

// Meinst du das klappt?

Klar klappt das. Jeder denkt immer „Boah irgendwas zu bauen ist so schwer“, aber dem ist nicht so. Jeder kann das. Ich bin der handwerklich untalentierteste Mensch. Ich hab noch nie was mit Handwerk oder Ähnlichem gemacht und es geht immer alles schief, aber das ist auch das Gute daran. Es wird nie so wie man es sich vorstellt, aber im Endeffekt ist es doch geil.

Und so muss man es einfach angehen.

Ok. Nun zum Tätowieren – wie kamt ihr auf diese Idee?

Ich mag einfach Tattoos, die spontan entstehen. Ich bin kein großer Fan von Motiven, die übergroß sind und, zum Beispiel, die gesamte Schulter einnehmen. Ich mag eher die kleinen Sachen, die dann zufällig irgendwo auf dem Körper landen.

Dann haben wir uns einfach mal Nadeln und Farbe bestellt.

Ich glaube aber, dass das viel schwieriger ist, als man sich das vorstellt.

Aber, irgendwie klappt das schon.

// Schon irgendwelche Motive im Kopf?

Also am Anfang steche ich erst mal nur einen Strich und baue den dann spontan aus.

Das mache ich beim Malen genauso. Ich mal immer, ohne vorher einen Plan zu haben. Zum Beispiel fange ich mit einer Kurve an und sehe dann in meinem Kopf etwas aus der Kurve entstehen. Und so male ich das dann immer weiter und irgendwann ergibt sich ein Bild daraus.

Meet Marc – YouTuber, one of the funniest and, as far as I can tell after meeting him only once, one of the kindest people.

But above all – an artist through and through.

Introduce yourself.

Ok.

I’m Marc.

I like to paint.

How would you describe yourself?

Dark blue. Because it’s one of my favorite colors and also because I always do feel like that.

Like a color.

But seriously – I’m open for everything and a cheerful person.

How did you come up with the idea of making videos?

It all started on Facebook. Every time I logged in, I started to see so much bullshit on there. Bullshit I don’t want to see. So I thought “hey, I need to change that and start doing what Facebook was originally for”. Then I started uploading pictures and write captions of what I was doing. Some people thought it’s quite funny and so there was this idea in my head of making a video and uploading it on Facebook. The video was about ‘how to make a mandarin candle’. It was around Christmas so I thought it’s quite suitable. // Marc shakes his head, laughs and says ‘oh God’. //

So that was the beginning. The reactions of other people were great and they all told me to start my own YouTube channel. In the beginning I said there’s no way I’d do that. But then, a few months later I did start after all.

Do you have a role model?

Not exactly a role model, but there are people I find pretty cool.

Fynn Kliemann for example. He builds things too. Only in bigger dimensions.

He and his girlfriend bought a huge property. In the middle of nowhere. And that’s where he builds things. Things like mini ramps, a pond and stuff like that.

Fynn builds only things he needs. Also, for example, a garden table.

And that is exactly what I want to do.

What is your favorite quote?

This is also what I want to get tattooed.

Do you have (future) dreams?

Owning a 100.000 square kilometer property near Bremen.

There are so many things you do yourself – is there anything you can’t do or make?

// laughs and says “I’m pretty perfect”//

I can’t cook. There are many things I can’t do. I can’t hold my breath for two minutes.

Well, I don’t know. I know what I can do, but to tell what I can’t do is difficult.

Ok, tell me what you can do then.

I can build things. I can paint. I’m a pretty creative person. I can skate a little. I can play the guitar.

And I am awfully good at taking shots //laughs// and that is one of my biggest talents.

When and how did you discover you’re creative and that you have an artistic disposition?

When I was in 9^th grade, I started taking pictures with my parents’ camera and realized how much I enjoyed it. But, I also realized then, that I was too dumb for university and so I started attending a design school. It was going pretty good there and so I carried on.  

Your favorite artist/s?

Janis Joplin.

Karate Andi.

Marilyn Monroe.

Lana Del Rey – I am so in love with her.

What is/means freedom to you?

Not having a structured daily routine.

Which I at the moment unfortunately do have. In order to change that, I thought about moving somewhere, where I don’t need money nor a job. For example, I could live in a camper van by a river – that would be the ideal place. Solar energy would give me electricity, my garden would give me food. That’s all I need.

Yes, exactly. I just recently saw the trailer to ‘Captain Fantastic’ – also pretty inspiring.

What was the happiest moment of your life?

That’s a really difficult one.

There are so many happy moments happening.

But, my happiest moment was, when/that I was born here, in Germany. Because here we can live the perfect life.

Just look at what is going on in other countries and think about what would be if you’d be born there.

You wouldn’t have any happy moments then.

The most heartbreaking moment of your life?

I didn’t really have heartbreaking moments yet. And if, then it was just small things.

But I don’t want to get into details here.

Are you happy?

Yes.

What can we expect from you in the future?

That’s so hard. There are so many people who want to see more and more videos of me, which I can absolutely not understand.

But there is such hard work behind it.

First you have to have an idea. Which isn’t difficult for me, because there is always so much shit coming to my mind.

The recording and making of that stuff isn’t hard work either. But the cutting – to cut the video is the worst. I always have to cut a lot, because I really talk a lot of shit.

Then you have to find license free music. Then you have to build a picture.

And to do all that, after you’ve been working for nine hours is quite stressful. I still try to make a video every two weeks though.

Topically I want to stay where I am right now.

Only I want to start building more useful stuff.

For example, my next project …. I got myself some pallets to build a foldable table with wheels. And in the middle I want it to have a bowl, where you can cool stuff.

The inspiration behind that project was definitely Fynn Kliemann.

// do you think it’ll work?

Of course it will work. People always think it’s so difficult to build something, but it’s not. Everybody can build or make stuff. Just look at me, I am the most untalented person when it comes to handcraft. And before I started my videos, I’ve never done anything crafty. And you can see that in my videos, because everything just goes wrong. But exactly this is the good thing. It never turns out the way you expect it, but at the end it comes out epic.

And that’s how you have to approach it.

Ok. Let’s talk tattoos now – how did that idea come up?

I just like tattoos that occur spontaneously. I’m not a fan of huge tattoos, I’m more into the small things, which land randomly on your body.

So then my friend and I just ordered some needles and ink.

Though I think it’s way more difficult to tattoo than I thought it would be.

But, it’ll work out somehow.

// already any motives in mind?

I think in the beginning I will start with a line and extend it from time to time.

I do the same thing when I paint. I always paint without having a plan. I might start with a curved line and see then, in my head, something coming to life out of this curve. So I keep on painting and it’s eventually becoming an image.
